App store launch checklist for a first release
The operational checklist behind a calmer first app release, from account ownership and privacy details to release testing and post-launch support.

A store submission is one part of launch
A first release also needs a known owner, support path, tested upgrade behavior, and a plan for what happens when users report an issue. Store requirements and review outcomes can change, so verify current platform guidance close to submission rather than relying on an old checklist.
Prepare in this order
Secure ownership
Use the business-owned developer accounts, signing credentials, bundle identifiers, and recovery contacts. Record who can approve a release.
Test the release build
Test the exact packaged build on representative devices, including a new install, upgrade, offline start, denied permissions, and a slow connection.
Complete the product information
Write an accurate description, support contact, privacy disclosures, age or audience details, screenshots, and review notes. Do not promise behavior the build does not have.
Schedule the first support window
Watch crash reports, sign-in, payments, notifications, and the primary task after release. Have a rollback or hotfix decision owner.
Do not skip
- A test account or review instructions when sign-in is required
- A way to contact the team from inside or beside the app
- Data deletion and account recovery behavior
- A documented version number and release note
The limitation
No checklist can guarantee store approval or a trouble-free launch. Platform review, device variation, third-party outages, and real user behavior remain outside the team’s control. Preparation reduces avoidable surprises; it does not remove uncertainty.
