Questions to Ask an App Development Partner
Use these questions to compare app developers on planning, quality, ownership, communication, and launch support, not just a proposal total.

A proposal should make the work easier to understand
The best questions reveal how a partner thinks when the plan meets reality. Ask for the reasoning behind the approach, how uncertainty is managed, and what you will be able to see and own. A polished presentation cannot substitute for a transparent working model.
Planning and scope
- What assumptions are included in this proposal?
- Which workflow is the first release designed to prove?
- What would cause the scope or schedule to change?
- How will we decide what is deferred when a new request appears?
Quality and ownership
- How are accessibility, security, device differences, and failure states handled?
- Who owns the source code, accounts, design files, data, and deployment setup?
- What testing happens before a release, and who can review it?
- What documentation and handoff will exist if the relationship ends?

Look for specifics
“We test everything” is less useful than a clear explanation of devices, workflows, acceptance criteria, and release checks.
Separate confidence from certainty
Responsible partners can be confident in their process while naming unknowns in the product.
Check for a post-launch plan
A launch is a transition into real usage. Understand monitoring, fixes, platform updates, and how further work is prioritised.
